This year, Doris begins teaching a course entitled
"Eros in Photography"
at New York City's New School for Social Research starting in September 1996.

For more information call 1-800-319-4321 Ext. 823

The course will explore the relationship between art and sex in contemporary culture through photography. It will examine aspects of sexual representation throughout the history of art and photography, and the role that various media play in portraying contemporary sexual identity through images used in both mainstream advertising and alternative outlets (Is fashion photography art or turn-on?).

The class will include slide presentations with commentary and discussions, and weekly assignments with critiques.

Discussions will include the history of fashion photography, super models and pinup models, the obsession with physical perfection and youth, and the implications of the "male gaze" concept.

The class will also explore the portrayal of alternative sexual concepts in the age of AIDS. Voyeurism, sadomasochism, body modification, modern primitivism, fetish, and trans-gender representations will be discussed.
